... and its universal expression: the Light Fairy.
Offer your Christmas event a poetic, luminous and unforgettable presence.
Through an embodied performance blending light, movement and symbolism, Sekhamet brings to life a gentle and inspiring figure that resonates far beyond cultural boundaries.
The Christkindel originates from the Germanic regions of Europe, particularly Germany, Alsace (France) and neighbouring Central European countries, where she has long been part of popular Christmas traditions.
Historically, the Christkindel did not appear alongside Saint Nicholas. Instead, she emerged as his feminine counterpart, and in several regions even replaced him for centuries.
While Saint Nicholas embodied authority, structure and moral guidance, the Christkindel carried a complementary role: one of gentleness, reassurance and light.
Traditionally accompanied by Père Fouettard — a disciplinary figure of European folklore — the Christkindel was entrusted with soothing children and restoring balance, bringing warmth and emotional security to the heart of winter. Through her presence, the Advent season became a time of calm waiting, tenderness and renewal.
Often represented as a feminine embodiment of the Child of Light, the Christkindel is closely linked to European festivals of light, including the traditions surrounding Saint Lucy, and to the lighting of the first Advent candles. These rituals symbolise hope, protection and the return of light during the darkest time of the year.
Today, the Christkindel remains a living figure of German-speaking Christmas culture, deeply rooted in collective memory.
Through dance, light and presence, Sekhamet revives this ancestral figure in a contemporary, poetic and accessible way — offering an experience that speaks to both children and adults, and reconnects audiences with the emotional and cultural essence of Christmas.
For regions or countries unfamiliar with the Christkindel, the character can appear as the Light Fairy — a universal, benevolent figure who embodies light, care and wonder.
The Light Fairy may gently introduce her origins, sharing the story of the Christkindel as part of a broader European folklore, or simply exist as a luminous presence adapted to your local traditions and audience.
In a globalised world, this approach invites curiosity, cultural exchange and a renewed connection to ancestral stories.
This gentle Christmas performance tells the story of the Advent Candles and their four virtues, carried by the Christkindel and her Advent crown.
A suspended moment of magic, where adults reconnect with childlike wonder.
